a unique CW Confederate Short artillery sword made into a fighting knife. The knife is 17 1/4" L with a 11 1/2" double edged hammered blade with a dark brownish patina. The blade shows a lot of use, but still has a little sharpness The brass guard, grip & pommel has a great patina & has no rivets in the grip, no markings anywhere. The guard has a few casting flaws & has the characteristics of the Leech & Rigdon made artillery swords. The peening at the top of the guard has been on there probably since the Civil War. A really unique fighting knife meant to be used & was probably used by a Rebel Soldier.
