Very nice Allen & Wheelock .31 cal. 6 shot pepperbox. These were made by Allen & Wheelock after Thurber died & were so marked from 1856-1865. Really nice brown patina on the fluted barrel with markings of Allen & Wheelock, Worcester & patented April 16. Nipple shield nice gray patina with floral engraving. The frame is also a gray patina also with floral engravings. The back strap is also engraved  with swirls. The bar hammer has what is left of Allen Patent 1845. Action is excellent on this pepperbox. Bag style grips in vg used condition. Serial no. on this pepperbox is 269 which is inside both wood grips on the mainspring & is between the nipples. This Allen & Wheelock has a real great look & works excellent.
