Civil War 1/9th Plate Tintype US Infantry Soldier with Musket in Gutta Percha Case
A nice 1/9th plate tintype of a probably Western theater US Infantry Soldier with his percussion musket holding his hat or kepi also. Soldier looks to be in full field uniform with dark shirt, sack coat & blue pants. The belt buckle & some of the buttons are gilded. You can see his cartridge box on his belt. Soldier's face is very clear as the rest of his uniform. Image is in a very nice Gutta Percha Union case & has the maker & address inside. Below the address is written Morrison & 10th Texas it looks to have been covered over & then erased to see the letters. I have a lot of doubts on this. The gold mat & liner are in good condition as well the glass. The case is in great condition with the velvet material on left side & image on the other. The outside of case has floral style relief work & the hinges in good condition. A nice CW tintype of an armed US Infantryman in a nice gutta percha case.
