Civil War Confederate De Witt Foot Officer's Sword, Georgia

A very nice example of the Columbus, Georgia made by A.H. Dewitt during the Civil War for Confederate Officer's. De Witt was a jeweler in Columbus, Ga. when the war started. Records show he made swords for a short time under contract for the state of Georgia.  Standard foot officer construction with around 30" hammered blade with unstopped fuller. Brass Guard has cast in foliage open style. Leather cover on wood grip with brass wire. Leather scabbard with brass mounts in nice condition. A real De Witt Confederate Foot Officer's sword which saw the elephant.
