Civil War Confederate Richmond Arsenal Sharps Carbine
Type 2, Civil War used Confederate Richmond Arsenal Sharps Carbine, .52 Caliber, Paper or Linen cartridge, Percussion. Well used Richmond sharps with all matching serial nos. 4725. found on tang, lockplate, bottom of barrel & carbine sling plate. Richmond, Va stamped behind the fixed rear sight. Richmond marking is light but can be seen & VA is clear. Richmond style front sight. Lever action is good used condition with Hammer & lever assembly like the US version. Original long sling bar & ring intact with 4725 & W stamping. Has the Richmond brass front barrel band. Wood stock in good used condition with normal use dings & small area in front of butt plate has some wood gone. Two larger slashes In backstock behind lockplate could even be saber blows. Crack on bottom of front forearm which has old repair & small piece of wood missing at front. 13 period knotches cut into top of backstock!! All screws look to be period. These Richmond sharps came from the same machinery as the S.C. Robinson sharps which was taken over by the Confederate Gov't in 1863. It is believed that around 3100 of these Richmond armory sharps were mfrd from 1863 through 1864. The serial no on this sharps make it made either late 63 or early 1864. The condition of this sharps shows it was well used during the CW as most of the CS Sharps are found in this type condition.
