Civil War M1851 Colt Navy Percussion Revolver with Colt Factory Letter
A well used Civil War Colt Navy Percussion revolver with a high price now Colt Factory letter. Standard M1851 Colt Navy with 6 shot cylinder, .36 cal., 7 1/2" Octagon barrel. Barrel marked --Address Saml Colt Hartford, Ct.--- with serial no. 98503 at the bottom & also has the original brass front sight. Frame is marked with Colts Patent & 98503. Cylinder has slight trace of scene intact & is marked 98503. Brass trigger guard has small amount of original silver finish intact along with 98503 & on side G. Brass backstrap also has 98503. Loading lever was replaced probably when the soldiers cleaned their weapons all in the same bucket during the war & has SN: 5403. Action is good on this Colt Navy. Wood grips in good used condition with two notches cut into the right side & three notches cut into the other side. Metal has grayish patina with blackish patina throughout which is the old finish turned black. This navy comes with the Colt factory letter which shows this Navy coming out of the factory in January 1861 & sent to Colt's New York distribution ctr which means, with that date, the revolver could have gone North or South. This Navy Colt has a real great Civil War used look & has the desirable Colt factory letter.Â
