Civil War M1860 Providence Tool Enlisted Man Cavalry Sword, 1862
Definite Civil War used M1860 US light cavalry sword & original scabbard. Sword made by Providence Tool Co. Rhode Island. Excellent made sword with 35" slightly curved blade. Markings on blade are Prov Tool Co. on one side & U.S. R.P.B (Gov't Inspector) & 1862. Blade is smooth with some original finish & has some cross graining still intact on ricasso. Standard brass branched guard, pommel & cap with great mellow patina. Soldier carved W on top of guard which is bent down for holding in upright position while in the field. Peening has never been touched. Gov't inspectors initials on pommel cap. Original leather wrap on wood grip is around 93% with use wear. All the twisted wire grip wrap is intact. Original steel scabbard in great used condition with no. dents & traces of the inspectors initials still on drag. These Providence Tool made Cavalry swords were only made in 1862.
