Nice condition on this Civil War, Martial, M1860 Spencer Carbine. Standard Spencer Carbine in 56/56 .52 Rimfire Caliber. 7 Shot loaded from the butt by the magazine tube. Smooth metal with areas of small s&p rusting. Wood stock in good used condition with Gov't  inspectors initials in cartouche on back stock behind the sling bar & ring. Lever action which is great condition Top of breech still has part of the Spencer address: ---------Rifle Co. Boston, M --- Pat'd March 6, 1860. Matching serial no. 55299 on back of frame & on bottom of barrel along with Gov't  P mark & inspector initial on side of barrel. Gov't  inspector initial C on butt plate & on back of fore arm. Original front & rear sights are intact. Metal has nice gray patina & wood has mellow patina.  Original Sling swivel still intact on back stock. Magazine tube is in good condition. The Spencer carbine was one of the most popular carbines by the troopers who used them & by the end of the Civil War was the main carbine used by the US Cavalry. The Spencer carbine was also used in the Indian wars. Abraham Lincoln personally endorsed the Spencer after the trial fire demonstration during the war. This is a very nice example of a Civil War used Cavalry Spencer Carbine.
