Civil War, M1863 Type 2 Springfield .58 Cal. Perc. Musket

Real nice example of the U.S. Gov't  M1863 type 2, sometimes called M1864, .58 cal. percussion rifled musket. These M1864 muskets were widely used in the American Civil War by Union Infantry during 1864 & 1865.  These M1864 muskets were the last muzzle loading US regulations arms.  These M1864 had 40" rd barrels in .58 cal. & had 3 barrel bands. Iron mountings & were finished bright. Muskets had walnut stocks & had steel tulip head ramrods. These along with the US M1861 musket was the primary firearm for the US Infantry.
This M1864 Springfield is in great, used condition. Metal parts are smooth with nice patina. The flat lock plate is marked very clearly with U.S. Springfield with American Eagle & 1864 behind the hammer. The barrel has clar VP with eagle head & on top of barrel at breech is 1864. The bolster on the other side of barrel has very clear American Eagle. Front sight & leafed rear sight are intact.  All the barrel bands have the U. The buttplate has the larger US intact. Both front & back sling swivels are intact. Walnut stock in great used condition with normal dings & nice patina. you can see the outlines of two inspectors cartouches on left side of stock but hard to read. Steel ramrod is also intact. There is a wood tampon in barrel. Action works great on this Civil War Percussion musket.  A really nice example of the Union Army mainstay percussion .58 cal. Musket
