Civil War Martial Burnsides Carbine
Nice war condition on this 4th to 5th model Burnsides Cavalry Carbine, .54 cal. percussion carbine. Serial no. 39006 matching through out. Nice smooth metal with nice patina. Lockplate mkd Burnside Rifle Co. Providence, R.I. Top of breech mkd: Burnside Patent March 25th 1856 & 39006, Top of barrel Mkd: Cast Steel & G. J. bottom of barrel mkd: 39006 & D. The side of the frame Mkd: W. Top of falling breech Mkd: 39006. Sides on falling breech with W W & H. Stock good with what looks like saber cuts & has two nice inspectors cartouches intact. Butt plate has a C. Action works great. Both Rear flip sight & front sight intact. Guide screw in middle of right side of frame. These weapons were used by many Union cavalry units during the CW including 1st Michigan, 3rd Indiana, 5th 6th 7th Ohio, 3rd 14th 18th Pa., 2nd 12th 14th 16th Illinois & others.
