Nice condition on this original Civil War, U.S. M1863 Artillery Horse Bit & complete leather headstall. 1863 pattern Artillery bit with improvements from the 1859 artillery bit, Bit has more pronounced curve & has slot for curb strap. Brass rosettes with stippled background & US. Black leather headstall is still supple & has all the correct straps & buckles intact & has the large artillery rosettes with intertwined USA, (United States Artillery). The forward head strap still has a lot of the original red paint for artillery & the throat strap is stamped with U.S. & inspectors' initials.
