Civil War Used M1855 Springfield Musket with Richmond Arsenal Reinspection Markings.
A Definite Civil War used M1855 Springfield Percussion rifled musket with Maynard Primer system. This musket fell into Confederates hands at some point, probably raid on Harpers Ferry arsenal, & has the Richmond Reinspection Star & other marking on the back of the barrel. Musket is in good used condition with uncleaned chocolate brown patina on metal parts. Barrel has VP & Eagle head still intact. & still has original front sight. Barrel has salt & pepper rusting around the nipple area which shows this gun was used a lot. Original rear sight intact but leaf's are missing. Lock plate has U.S. Springfield & dated 1858 at rear. Lock plate has great patina & has smooth metal. Maynard primer still works but the cover is missing. Three metal barrel bands intact with the U's intact. Middle band has the sling swivel broke off. Wood stock is in good used condition & you can still make out the inspectors cartouches on the left side of stock. Butt plate & trigger guard have the brown patina. Action works good on this Confederate used musket. Ramrod is also intact. This rifled musket was definitely in action in the Civil War & with the Confederate Richmond arsenal star & other markings was used by Confederate troops.Â
