Civil War Used M1855 Springfield Rifled Musket W/Richmond Arsenal Reinspection Markings
A definite Civil War used M1855 Springfield Rifled musket with Maynard Primer & has Richmond Arsenal Reinspect Star & other markings. This musket started out in the US Gov't & sometime in the Civil War was either captured sent to Richmond arsenal reinspected & sent back out to Confederate troops. Standard M1855 Springfield rifled musket with Maynard primer & 40" barrel in .58 cal. percussion. Barrel has a uncleaned chocolate brown patina. Original front & rear sight which is missing leaf's.& has the VP & eagle head markings. Lock plate is marked with U.S. Springfield & dated 1858. Lock plate is smooth with brown patina. Hammer same & action is good. Trigger guard, Butt plate & 3 barrel bands all have brown patina & middle band has what is left of the sling swivel. Wood stock in good battle used condition with no breaks & has two inspectors cartouches on left side. Ram rod intact. Maynard priming system still works but the cover is missing. This M1855 was at some time during the war was captured & sent to Richmond arsenal for inspection or was captured at Harpers Ferry by Gen. Jackson.
