Confederate Dog River, Boyle & Gamble Characteristics, Sword/Scabbard

A nice Confederate Dog River cavalry sword & scabbard with the characteristics of the Boyle & Gamble Swords of Richmond, Va. The sword has a 36" X 1" slightly curved, fullered & hammered blade. The sword blade has a very nice patina. Sword has the Brass branched guard with rougher casting which is a characteristic of Boyle & Gamble & has the cupped bottom of the guard also a Characteristic of B&G. Leather throat washer looks to be original.  Looks to be used oil cloth covered wood grip with worn areas &  heavy copper wire wrap, all intact. Brass pommel & cap also same mellow patina on the brass. This sword has a standard CS style steel scabbard with a lap over seam & lead filling. Brass hangers & throat on the scabbard. Looks like period black paint had been put on which in the light with the paint being so thin now brown show through. This is a really nice look on the scabbard. This sword looks to have seen the elephant during the Civil War. A real Confederate dog river cavalry sword which has a lot of the characteristics of the Boyle & Gamble Richmond,  Va. sword makers.
