Confederate D guard bowie or CS Short Artillery sword which is 20 1/2" long with a double edged blade which is just less than 16" Steel guard with steel backstrap & with wood grip which has great patina & has expected stress cracks. This sword could have been an early battlefield pickup. The blade has had s&p rusting with no mks. The guard is a little loose because of the orignal peening has a slight looseness. These swords or knives have always been identified as Kenansville, Louis Froelich, NC product but recent evidence indicts these knives may have been made by Boyle & Gamble, Va. This is a great example of the Confederate, war used, D Guard bowie or short sword.
