CS & Star Confederate Short Artillery Sword/Scabbard
All original Confederate Short Artillery Sword & Leather Scabbard. These swords are identified as these type swords because of the crudely cast CS in the counter guard & the star cast into the pommel. These swords were mfrd for Artillery troops to defend against Cavalry attacks. & were used as some have been found on battle sites. These swords had either a wood or leather scabbard & are rare to find with either. This sword has the leather scabbard in which the brass mount at the top of scabbard & the brass drag are missing. You can see where they were attached on the leather. The leather is supple & has some small seperations on the threading. This sword has great mellow patina on the brass guard, pommel & grip. The sword has casting flaws on the cross guard & on the end of the cross guard, grip area & on one of the stars. The double edged Hammered blade is nearly 19" long & has crude ferrule down the middle. Blade has nice brown & gray patina. A really nice example of the CS & Star Confederate Short Artillery Sword & Leather scabbard.
