Great M1840 C. Hammond Philadelphia Heavy Cavalry Sword/Scabbard

Really excellent condition on this Civil War M1840 C. Hammond Heavy cavalry sword & scabbard. These M1840 swords were called wrist breakers because of the weight. The Hammond Cavalry swords were manufactured before the Civil War and were sent to militia state troops before the CW &  were not Gov't inspected swords. These Hammond, Philadelphia swords were used by both Northern & Southern troops during the CW. The massive curved blade is nearly 36"L X 11/4"W with flat back. The blade is marked with C.Hammond on the ricasso & has a lot of the original finish intact even the cross finishing above the ricasso. Nice dark patina on the excellent brass hilt with three branches as well the pommel & cap. All original wood grip with all the original leather cover which shows use & all of the original twisted brass wire wrap is intact. Iron scabbard with iron mountings & large drag  is in excellent condition with no dents & has most of the original finish intact.  A really excellent example of a rarer Civil War M1840 Heavy Cavalry sword made by Charles Hammond of Philadelphia.Â
