Large, Percussion underhammer Pistol with great curly Maple Stock. 13 1/2" Long underhammer pistol with 8 3/4" part octagon, part round barrel in .28- .30 caliber. Very nice pistol with curly Maple stock & nice bone inlays. Handles edged in brass with pointed butt. This could be a product of Gibbs, Tiffany & Co. Sturbridge, Mass. & has a lot of the characteristics of their pistols. These pistols were mainly made in late 1840s- 1860s. Large percusson underhammer with small, thin trigger. Barrel has the original front sight & barrel is marked, with what is left of: S & Co. & teel. This is probably E. Hutchings & Co. & Steel which shows up on a number of the underhammer pistols. Rear sight is also intact. No other markings which I can find. A really nice New England made Underhammer Percussion pistol.
