Late 3rd Model M1851 Army Navy Martial US Colt Revolver, Gov't Inspected
Very Nice condition on this US Gov't Model Army Navy Colt revolver. Standard M1851 6 shot colt revolver in .36 cal. with 7 1/2" oct. barrel. This martial revolver has the rare Blade style front sight. Barrel is mkd Address Saml Colt New-York City early address. Serial no. is 47982 which came out of factory in 1856. Left side of frame is mkd Colts Patent with small US under. Gov't inspectors marks H twice & G & L on Cylinder, top of barrel behind the address & guard in two places. Metal is smooth with traces of finish in protected areas Serial no. is on the frame, barrel, cylinder, trigger guard, butt, loading lever & cylinder rod. Wedge has number which is close & may be one of those which got changed when soldiers were cleaning their guns. Brass has great mellow patina with some silver intact on guard & small amount on the back strap. Trigger guard also has H B carved into the silver. The wood grips in good used condition with the last two nos. of the serial no. still intact on inside which matches. the military cartouches on the grips looks to have been worn off. The cylinder on this Gov't army navy has around 85% of cylinder scene intact along with Colts Patent No.47982 H & beneath that is Engraved by W.L.Ormsby New York. Action is excellent. These military Colt army navy revolvers were sold to the US Gov't & were used by both the army & the navy until the colt black navy navy revolvers came out & went to the navy. These revolvers were mainly used by the cavalry units & many were still in use in the civil war & both North & South had these revolvers. A really nice example of the martial Colt Army Navy.
