Excellent photograph which has ties to the Gettysburg photo I have on the site. This photo & the Gettysburg photo belonged to Hiram T. Balch who was in the 48th Ma. Inf & the 4th Ma Heavy artillery. He is pictured in the Gettysburg photo shaking hand with UCV Confederate soldier. This picture was with the Gettysburg pic. originally. Pic frame is 16 1/2" X 21 3/4" & photo inself is 8 1/2" X 14", Photo is of W.E. Carlton, H.T. Balch, Samuel Brookings & C.T. Balch. These veterans were all attached to Mass. Units during the CW & attached to different GAR post in Mass. Old paper attached to picture states that these vets attended the 75th Wedding Aniversary of another vet Henry S. Lay who had also been in the same 4th Mass Heavy Artillery as two of his comrades in the photo. Henry was 99 years old & his wife was 97. Said they were in good spirits & talked of the war times & they gave them a bouquet of choice flowers. Photo in great shape with wood back. The matting had been changed at some time & there is tape help holding the wood backing. Have soldier's records on all the vet & the vet who had the 75th aniversary. These two pics really need to be together.Sorry some of the pics had refections from the glass on the frame.
