Published & Id'ed 3 CSA Soldiers, Camp Douglas, CDV
Price:Â $675.00
Published & Identified CDV taken at Camp Douglas Prison in Illinois of three Confederate soldiers who were prisoners there. This image is published in William Albaugh's Confederate Faces book on page 111, Fig. 406 & was in the Michael McAfee collection. The image has the three soldier's name written on back & numbered to the soldiers. 1. C H Bailey, 2. Eddie Reed & 3. Charley G. Shanklin. Bailey & Shanklin were attached to the 49th Tennessee Infantry & were captured at the battle of Franklin, Tennessee in 1864. Reed was in the 1st Kentucky Cavalry, attached to Morgan's unit at the time & captured at Geen River, Ky. 1863. This is a standard CDV size image with the three soldiers setting & in their Confederate Coats & pants. The image has some small worn areas but where they are don't distract from the image itself. The back of the image has the three names, hand written, & also Long Charley "Bailey" & prisoners of war at Camp Douglas. These look to all be period writings. There is what's left of the photographer's back mark which reads, "D. Photo Cam" which originally should have been D. F. Brandon Photographer Camp Douglas, Ill. I have copies of the day by day report of Bailey & Shanklin which shows them captured at Franklin, Tn. & sent to Camp Douglas & also have the soldier's report of Eddie Reed being captured at Green River, Ky. This original image with wear is a great pic from the Camp Douglas prison camp of the three Confederate soldiers, identified to the 49th Tn Infantry & to one of Morgan's 1st Ky Cavalry soldiers & is published in Albaugh's first Confederate Faces book.
