A mint, never played on extremely rare John Paul Strain edition of the Franklin Mint Hero's of the North & South chess set. This is the most beautiful representation of the Civil War in a chess set, This set comes in the original box with original packing material & papers. This set was commissioned by the CW Library & Museum & made by the Franklin Mint. Set designed by John Paul Strain, Probably the most historic artist of the Civil War. This chess set has the portrayal of Robert E. Lee, Gen. Meade, Gen. Grant, Custer, Stewart & many others. Each piece is crafted pewter cast. Painted & finished by to Strains' specifications. This unused chess set board is 19" X 19" & the board & the 32 chess pieces are very heavy. The original box is 23" X 23" X 8" & is in very good condition. If you ever seen one of these chess sets you will understand the beauty of this set. Around the edges of the board are JPS images of his painting. There are figures of both Northern & Southern cavalrymen. Images of the Southern Leaders & Northern Leaders. On the board on silver color is John Paul Strain.
