Whitney, M1841 Mississippi Rifle, Really Nice Condition

M1841 Whitney Manufacture Mississippi Percussion US Rifle. 33" round barrel in the original .54 caliber attached by two brass barrel bands. Brass mountings & brass patch Box. US marking on butt plate. Steel ramrod with brass tip. Lock plate marked with E. Whitney over US & behind the hammer marked N.Haven 1853. Smooth metal with nice patina & brass has great mellow patina. Barrel is marked with US, JH (inspector), VP with Steel on side of barrel. Inspectors initial on all the brass parts. 1853 on the tang same as lock. V open rear sight &  front sight intact. Walnut stock is great used condition with two nice inspector/s cartouches on left side of stock. Action is great on this Mississippi. Inside patch box is the extra nipple still intact. Many  of these M1841 rifles were in southern militia units before the Civil War & were used by Confederate troops. Mississippi rifles got very popular in the Mexican War. This is a really great conditioned M1841 Mississippi Rifle.
