Whitney M1841 Percussion Mississippi Rifle. Really Nice Condition

M1841 Whitney Manufactured Mississippi percussion US Rifle. Standard 33"Round barrel in original .54 cal. attached by two brass barrel bands. Brass mountings & patch box. U.S. Stamping on butt plate. Steel ramrod with brass tip. Lock plate marked with E.Whitney over US & behind the hammer mkd N.Haven & 1853. All metal smooth with nice patina & brass patch box, butt plate, trigger guard, side plate & barrel bands have a mellow patina. The barrel on this Miss. is marked with US, JH (inspector) & VP on top & on side at breech is STEEL & H (inspector). The tang is stamped same as lock plate 1853.  V open rear sight & standard front sight. Brass upper barrel band mkd (H), side plate mkd (H), Inside trigger guard mkd (H) & trigger guard plate mkd (H) & patch box mkd (H). These H marks are government inspector initials from same inspector JH on barrel. Both sling swivels are intact.  Walnut stock in great used condition with normal use dings. & has two nice gov't inspector cartouches on left side of stock. One cartouches is WAT & the other is J?. Bottom of back stock at bottom may be numbers.  Action is excellent on this Mississippi rifle. Inside the patch box is the original spare nipple. Evidence shows that Georgia & Mississippi purchased a lot of these M1841 rifles before the war broke out & there were also many of these already in southern militias. These M1841 rifles were used in the Mexican war & got their name Mississippi rifle there. This Mississippi  M1841 percussion rifle is in excellent condition  & really has a great look.
