Civil War, Sheffield Mfr. Bowie Knife with Name
Excellent Civil War bowie knife with name on the sheath. 10" bowie with 6" heavy, made for use, blade with Corsan Denton Burkekin & Co. markings. The blade is smooth with nice grayish patina. Heavy cross guard, silver colored, & very nice, two piece, bone grips. This bowie is heavy for its size. The leather sheath show use & still has the belt loop intact. Name is dotted into the sheath which looks like W.O. Gaplan. This company made this type of bowie in the 1850s & 60s & were sent to the US before & during the American Civil War. Interesting Corsan of the company came to the US during the CW to the south for a while. He later wrote a book in which he stated that the South could not be defeated. An excellent CW Sheffield bowie knife with name. $975.00
Very early Civil War L. Haiman & Brother, Georgia manufacture of this Confederate Cavalry Sword & Scabbard. The sword is 41 3/4" overall with a 36" slightly curved hammered blade with flaws which is a Haiman characteristic. Blade is a nice used patina. Mellow patina on the very thick brass guard which shows it was an early war mfr also with flaws. Top of guard has 14 stamped into it. Wood grip covered in thin leather maybe pigskin & shows some use. Twisted wire wrap is intact. Pommel & cap has same mellow patina & also has 14. Steel scabbard with brass throat. Early very crude bronze seam all the way down the scabbard. Steel drag on scabbard. These early swords were better made than the latter Haiman swords with lap over seams on scabbard & solid iron wire wrap. They ended up making them quicker & not as good. This is a early made Haiman Classic Confederate sword & scabbard for the CS Gov't. $3850.00
